A forest consists of many trees. Yet, one tree is part of a small community of animals and plant life forms – all co-operating and interdependent of each other.
In the same way, Energy Medicine believes that the mind, body, spirit and emotions combine to form a community of parts. Although, we can see the physical body, there are several unseen energy bodies as well.
The human body is like a forest, a community of parts all working together.
Modern medicine says our physical body has skeletal, muscular, endocrine, lymphatic, digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory system, urinary, reproductive systems, all working together.
Ancient medicine says there are energetic systems or envelopes surrounding the human body – physical, emotional, mental, astral bodies.
Each physical and energetic system has a function and contains a story of your cumulative life events and how your body processes life surrounding it. When you think of the variety of modern stresses and toxic landscapes (water, air, earth and emotional), that bombard us, our body’s creative resilience is amazing.
The American Indian believes that you can not remove a tree and simply replace it with a seedling. Surrounding that one tree is a small community of life forms, essential to each another. If a tree is cut down, removed, dis-eased, dying – it affects the community surrounding it. And so it is with the human body systems. If a part is removed, imbalanced, dis-eased or shut down – the rest of the community must compensate.
American Indian also believes that earth is a living organism. If that is true, each of us has the responsibility to maintain our collective good health to maintain Earth wellness. We are not dependent on others for wellness. We have the right and responsibility to take care of our good health. This often involves self-homework and a great deal of strength and courage.
We don’t need to connect with each other and become a global one – energetically we are already connected! Keeping our bodies and our Earth balanced while being aware, observant and mindful of all of our cultural differences and needs is the challenge. Independence with compassion and fortitude.
Re-Connecting to the Universal Life Force energy through Reiki is one way we can rebalance our wellness.
